Nature has blessed Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand with heavenly beauty- Chamoli district is no exception. Chamoli district was home of lord Shiva in Satya Yuga. The God of Gods- Shiva resided in Kailash parvat or Trishul peak as called today during the ancient times. Devi Parvati incarnated as Nanda in Chamoli. The district connected with numerous legendary stories of Hindu holy epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, Chamoli district offers a blend of beauty, nature and spirituality.
Chamoli District – Administrative setup
To the north Chamoli district is bounded by Tibet, to the north-west is Uttarkashi district, to the east lie Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts, to the south lies Almora district, to the southwest stands Pauri Garhwal district and to the west sits Rudraprayag district. Chamoli district is divided into six tehsils and nine development blocks.
There are 27 allopathic hospitals, 59 ayurvedic hospitals, 6 homeopathic hospitals, 11 primary health centers, 7 family and child welfare centers, 104 family and child sub centers in Chamoli district. Chamoli district has 1133 primary schools, 322 middle schools, 188 secondary and senior secondary schools and 6 college to provide quality education.
Chamoli District – Economy
Chamoli district has an area of 8,030 square kilometers among which 58.38% is covered by forest. Deodar, Chir, Banj, Burans, Ringal, Anyar and Coniterous are the tree types prevalent in the forests of Chamoli district. Fruits majorly found are apple, mango, orange, pear, khumani and walnut. Major occupation in Chamoli district is agriculture and the major crops are rice, seasonal vegetables, millets, potato and pulses. Ogal, fafur (fapar), rajma, mandua, jaun, ural, soyabean, wheat, maize, barley are other crops usually cultivated by people of Chamoli district. They grow tomato and onion too. Cereals like urd, arhar and rapeseeds are planted in Chamoli.
Currently Chamoli district do not export any goods, potential areas of industrial growth are adventure and religious tourism- hotel/restaurants, travel agencies, trekking guide; mini hydro-power projects, fishery, herbal plants & trees tea cultivation, bees keeping, woolen industry, and fruit processing. Locals of Chamoli can earn through these industries.

According to the national census 2011, Chamoli district has a total population of 391,605 with 197,614 female and 193,991 male where the child population aged 0-6 is 52,161 with 24,552 girls and 27,609 boys. The urban population is 15.17% of the total population, 59,396 in number. 84.83% of the population is rural, 332,209 in number.
